21./22.06.2025 (Sat/Sun) Chan Meditaion Study & Training

Chan Meditation in theory and practice

A Chan Meditation Workshop will be held at the Shaolin Temple under the direction of Grand Masters Shi Yan Pei, Shi Yan Liang, Shi Yan Ye, and Shi Yan Xuan.

Chan meditation is a sitting exercise in silence. It is an important tool for monks who strive for higher spiritual development. It helps reduce stress and release tension, thus ensuring greater balance in life. Through meditation, the student learns to shield themselves from external stimuli and to penetrate otherwise hidden levels of consciousness. Meditation strengthens self-esteem, promotes inner peace and harmony, as well as serenity in everyday life.

In addition to classic Chan meditation, walking meditation is also taught at the Shaolin Temple. This serves both as a mindfulness exercise and to prepare the body for longer sitting meditation sessions, or to loosen up between meditation sessions.

Other content of the workshop includes various warm-up exercises, specifically stretching the hips and the joints in the legs and feet. Energy massages are also available to channel excess energy to all parts of the body. These also serve to stimulate circulation in the legs after prolonged sitting exercises.

Participants can learn more about Shaolin culture through a Chan Tea meditation.

The stages of the Gong Fu Duanpin system

The Shaolin Gong Fu Duanpin system established nine “pin” and nine “duan”. The degree of Duan from low to high is one to nine, and the degree of Pin from low to high is one to nine. At the same time, the certificate, belts, badges and other related recognition systems were improved.

The development of the Duanpin system in China

After almost three years of practical teaching, development and evaluation by the Shaolin Temple in China, more than 4,000 students have already passed the evaluation and scholarship. The “Shaolin Kungfu Duanpin System” has thus fulfilled the conditions for the introduction and application of the system abroad.

Introduction and spread of the Duanpin system in Europe

In order to introduce and spread the new Duanpin system in Europe, the abbot of the Shaolin monastery, Shi Yong Xin, commissioned the Shaolin Europe Association to hold training courses for masters and trainers from all relevant Gong Fu schools in Europe. Shi Yong Xin sends three Shaolin masters from China as trainers.
